This clip speaks to what scares me the most about society today. People are too willing to ignore those things that interfere with their day to day lives of luxury, material goods, and ignorant bliss. They turn away from those things that scare them, unwilling to believe that they can change it, instead assuming that someone else will handle it, or worse, that not all life is as valuable.
The scenes of Africa particularly were disturbing - and something that I think gets ignored even more than the wars waged in the name of ‘Democracies’. No one seems to care too much about Africa - Sudan, Sub-Saharan Africa, HIV/AIDS pandemic, Malaria epidemics, corrupt governments, etc. These are all problems that I believe the whole world can get behind regardless of politics.
But politics does always get in the way, doesn’t it? For every $1 USD the United States gives to a Sub-Saharan African in foreign aid, the US gives $250 USD to an Israeli…
Israeli per capita income is upwards of $14,000 USD per year…needless to say Sub-saharan Africa is less than $1,000.
