Picture: Total Lunar Eclipse over Amman

Last night was the perfect night for Jordan to experience the total eclipse of the moon. The weather was very clear unlike last week, the region was going to see a 'total' eclipse along with Europe and Africa, and the timing was reasonable to some degree.
So, I set up a telescope, prepared my camera, and stayed up for a few hours. Enjoy the photo!
In my opinion, the best part was when the total eclipse occurred; the moon turned red, and the stars around the moon appeared very clearly. It was something no camera can capture!

that's amazing. i'm glad you took photos too.
I already told you how much I like this composition on your flikr post. I wanted to explain why the moon turned red. The moon passed through the earth's atmosphere, which tends to scatter the shorter wavelengths (blue) of light. This turns the light reflected off the moon and is coming toward earth turn from white into red light. This is like when the sunsets, there is a long path through the atmosphere for it’s light. That is why it gets more red as it sets.

Very nice, i like it.
Are the positions of the moon arbitary (as in, you moved them while doing the composite), or is this the actual path of the moon?
I missed it ;( but so glad to let us sharing you the photo..awesome
Man Great shots,
your blog should be ok now on sawtona.com
by the way what is your camera model
Thanks everyone!
7sam, I use a Canon "Power Shot S2 iS", it's really nice, shoots great photos, and had a reasonable price.
Sinan, You read my mind :) .. it's mostly a composition to make it look good, but it's inspired by the path the moon took that night. I think that's why it turned out well.
NAR, I see now!
Z3tr, RedRose, I'm glad you liked this composition.
