My "He-Man" Boy!

Today is one of the special days in my life, it is my son’s birthday, and he is turning 27 years old.

The first time I held him in my arms at the hospital, I thought the hospital switched my baby!! He looked nothing like my daughter! I expected him to have a similar look but he had no hair and had light colored eyes. Thankfully it turned out to be my baby!

It is not easy to raise kids, but the many hardships are all forgotten and forgiven memories. Memories of first everything with my children are still there in my head. The many pictures I have of them tell many stories. I have to admit that it was pleasant time caring for my children and watch them grow.

When my son was 4 years old, he was crazy about the He-Man toys...I used to buy him one action figure every week. he collected all of the figurines, the weapons, the vehicles and the castles, up until he was around ten years old....He used to spend hours playing his fantasies with these toys...I saved all the collection, maybe one day he would want to have it back! Not too long ago he thanked me for buying the He-Man collection for him when he was young; he mentioned that ,he believes, it helped his imagination grow and revived his thinking...I did not know that it had a large impact on his creativity!

When he was around 13 years old, the internet was still very new; he would get bothered by my questions on how to get online or what to do next...he would say: “Oh, Mom...I am tired of teaching you!!!” In many ways being a parent and a teacher for my kids, I realize that I have also been a student; I have learned so much from my own children...they have played a large part in molding me into the person I am today.

He always had a great head on his shoulders. He was curious, innovative, and creative in many ways. I do not ever remember him studying hard to get high grades. It was a breeze for him to go through school. He has always been a book worm, and would come out with the most amazing little known facts, he kept me entertained with his stories...it was pretty amusing and challenging raising him.

He made it into one of the prestigious universities in the US and graduated with good grades. After his graduation, it was so hard for him to find a job due to the “burst of the bubble”. I cried many times and my heart ached for him to see him struggling to find a job...It was too hard for me to see his dreams put to halt....It took him about 15 months to get a decent job that he decided to quit after six months because he did not feel “right” working for that firm. He is a man of certain ethics and thoughts; he is a freedom thinker, independent and adventurer. He has many art and literature interests in life that he is pursuing on his free time. He works as a free lancer to make a living in order to have the freedom of managing his time and pursue his art and creative interests.

I’m compelled to mention all the things about him that fills me with pride and joy. It is just a very long list to tell about the caring, witty, sensitive, sweet and loving person he is. I like his easygoing personality and laid back character and integrity. He is a true gentleman.

I am eternally grateful and extremely proud. He is a wonderful role model for his younger brother and all his cousins, who all look up to him for guidance, strength, and most importantly, love.

Although he has grown into a fine young man, but he will always be my little boy with trusting eyes and bright shining face. I am so proud of him and know I am blessed to have him in my life. I will always love him.

At the end of the day, seeing him the way he is now tells me that I have done well raising him.
