Electronic Colonialism
"Electronic colonialism is the dependency relationship established by the importation of communication hardware, foreign produced software, along with engineers, technicians and related information protocols, that vicariously establish a set of foreign norms, values, and expectations, which, in various ways may alter the domestic cultures and the socialization processes."
(Thomas McPhail, ‘Electronic Colonialism: the future of international broadcasting and communication,’ Revised Second Edition. Sage Library of Social Research 1987. Page. 18.)

IS THIS GLOBALIZATION AT ITS BEST? IS THERE SUCH A THING? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS QUOTE
the concept of 'electronic colonialism' is rather an old one, it came before the recent internet, satellite TV, and ICT revolution around the world. So it was some kind of a foreshadowing of what will happen.
what do you think?
I think electronic colonialism is inevitable.
Culture isn't lost, but it is changed in an effort to adapt structurally/economically/etc in order to grow as a Nation in a constantly changing world environment. So, shouldn't a more peripheral nation be thankful for electronic colonialism? Without it, they'd be left in the metaphorical dust.
I'm writing a paper on Electronic Colonialism in Jordan and stumbled across your blog. Interested in contributing?
ps...my name matches by mere coincidence.
jordan... sure, am editing my thesis on electronic journalism/blogs in jordan/mideast as we speak..
