~ Five Simple Tips For Increasing Blog Traffic.
In my recent post about Adsense performance and Traffic, Khaled asked me to write a serious post on making traffic, or in other words, increasing traffic to your blog. I’ve written some posts before on some of the ways you can utilize to do that, Like, Optimizing your site for search engines, and Promoting your blog using social networking. And even though I can’t really call myself an expert on the subject, there are some ways, that I know from personal experience, that work and do just that, increase traffic to your blog.
These five simple tips are not an invention of my own, rather obvious and common practices people use everyday.
1- Even though this is not a necessity nor a major factor, but it would help alot, you’ll want to start by making sure you are hosting the blog or website on your own domain; this makes it much easier for search engines to find, and also makes your URL much more credible. You can then use the URL name itself to promote it, adding a ‘www’ tag to your postings, e-mail signatures, and other information that you share on the web. Also it would be much easier for your to monetize your site (if you wish to do so) since you have total control over your site/blog.
2- write good titles, Even people who are already subscribed to your blog may not actually click on the information you have written unless they are compelled to do so. Make sure your titles are on topic and describe the content you are posting. Using keywords in your titles makes it much easier for search engines to discover them as well.
3- Another effective, simple and basic way to start generating visitors is to participate in discussions/comments on other blogs or forums. Taking initiative with your own social networking can help you gain a steady audience very quickly; try participating in online communities related to your interest. become interactive with your community and with the bloggers around you.
4- You’ll always want to tag your content, since many people run searches based on tags and keywords, larger sites including Digg, Technorati, and StumbleUpon use tags to sort all content published on the web, and you can reach a larger audience simply by breaking apart your content and submitting it to the appropriate categories. also make sure to optimize your posts for the search engines, by applying an appropriate title, description and keywords, There is a very good plugin for WordPress called All in One SEO Pack That can help you a lot in optimizing your blog and individual posts.
5- Finally, another simple and effective way to increase traffic is to simply write quality content; the more quality you provide for your readers, the higher the chances that your audience will link to you and share the information you are presenting to others. This is word-of-mouth marketing at its best. Visitor traffic increases dramatically when your posts are submitted to larger directory sites and social bookmarking networks; think of ways that you can start developing some very unique articles, content, and posts.

thank you for the tips. i am just getting starting with my blog and i need all the help i can get. right now, all of these tips are realistic except for getting my own domains. i am a while from being able to do that.

Nice article. I agree with leveraging social sites in an appropriate manner. Digg is excellent… pretty good on blocking out spam, but uses followable links, thus encouraging and rewarding good articles.
Also Stumble Upon can bring a rush of traffic, to make the most of it it’s important to keep your blog fresh and regularly provide useful articles.
@arun kamath - PR isn’t everything. The PR we see is about 3 months out of date, and can only be used as a rough guide. Google keeps the real PR hidden.

The last point you made about the quality of the content is the most important. People will always return if they have read something that interests them. I have read a couple posts lately that really wasted my time. They were not really about anything, only there to produce a post. Needless to say, I did not put them in my favorites.

The best way to increase traffic is by exchanging links with related blogs or portals, for example having a link from a blog like problogger should be great for a blog like this!

Links are very important to increase traffic, but if you don’t have high quality content and there is no reader loyalty, then say goodbye to all your SEO effort.

Write good title.. yes.. indeed. This is my issue. Most of the time I can’t think of any good title. I hope I’m getting better at it through time.
