The Collapse of the Arab Civilization
Samuel Huntington and Bernard Lewis, among others, have argued that the “clash of civilizations” is more cultural than ideological and economic. Among those who disagree is Army Lt. Colonel James Lacey who wrote a provocative essay in 2005 arguing that Arab Civilization, as opposed to Islamic Civilization, is collapsing under the weight of oppression and poverty, not any clash with the West.
