Reality Sets In!

The packers came in this morning with their packing material…too many boxes, bubble wrap, paper, cartons, tape, utility knives and a “I-am-so-happy-off-to-work-I-go” attitude! (It’s a good thing to have a positive attitude in such a physical job).

I am still jet lagged and tired from my arrival two nights ago. I have not had a good night sleep since I came back but it is still too early too to get used to the time difference…I know I should be over it soon!

The house looks so different now…gives me sad feelings…I guess reality is setting in and it is true, no escaping reality…YES! I am moving!!

By the end of the day, most of the living room and dinning room furniture was packed and put aside to be picked up in few days to ship to Bahrain.

Tomorrow will be the kitchen stuff and appliances turn to get packed. Next the bedrooms and personal stuff…it is so overwhelming but those guys, all seven of them, are professional and fast at work. I just hope the stuff gets to the new home all in one piece with no problem.

It will be few months until we get the shipment and settle in our new home in Manama…in the meantime, we will be staying at a furnished place, not so bad and has good amenities. Simple things that make life comfortable….the most important thing to me is to have wireless internet connection and a nice gym, if they have those, it means that the rest of the stuff is just as comfortable and fine. The place even has a nice kitchen that I can cook in!! What a relief!

I can’t believe this will be my last two weeks or less living in Beirut!!! I will miss it but I am happy to leave. No more check points, no more camouflaged army personnel around, no more tanks, no more sudden closing of roads, and no more anticipation of bombings or such terrible stuff to deal with.

I still wish and hope for Lebanon to be just as normal as any other place around the world for people to enjoy life as they deserve it…If they ever agree on a president...but this needs another post!!!

WOW.. that's it, you're leaving Beirut..!!
Packing and boxes makes it a reality and at the same time it is exciting to be in a new place, like an adventure..Yalla Allah ma3kon and best of luck :)

Those check points you're talking about, do they stop you and ask for IDs and stuff, like the old days ?? hope not !!

Noura, So far the check points are army check points, alhamdulillah! no one is asking for ID, only if males alone in the car, but when there is a female they just let the car go.
Thanks for your wishes! seeing the house packed makes things more closer to reality!

Hamede, I think moving is exciting and fun, IF you have lots of help with it, it should be all ok! :)
Thanks!

Nido, Thanks for coming by!
Yes, the whole house is being shipped, every little and big thing...nothing will stay here anymore!
i do not do the marking for the boxes, the guys from the shipping/moving company do that. i do my own detailed inventory list with estimated value to the stuff we are shipping for insurance purposes...as you know, i have vast an experience in moving and i developed a system in dealing with it, physically, mentally and psychologically- One day i should write a book about it!
:)

It is really sad how Beirut let people leave ... and how people who just love this place have some reasons to leave it. I love my city too .. but I just want to leave it now !!

Good luck in your new place ... I am sure though you will mis Beirut and e its check points :)

Summer, you are a champion mover and I was thinking the same thing...write a book on it! Or, at least a mag article ;)

I'll be praying for you as you leave one home and move on to another. It is sad to leave a place you love, but even sadder when circumstances outside your control force the move.

Afaf, thanks!

wow, sorry about the packing. I think I'm still in our home not only b/c I love it, but b/c I can't stand the thought of having to do any moving. Ugh.
I can relate to the jetlag-hit the ground running from the moment we came home late Sunday. 2 jobs, household chores, a day job boss that is "off the wall" presently and no sleep-almost fatal combination here.

Carine, Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment despite all the hectic time you are going through...the weekend is not too far so i hope you can rest and catch up on some sleep. :)
I do not like this part of moving the most, the packing!! but unpacking and moving to a new place is so exciting and always fun to me.

Thanks Mala2e6 for coming by!! yes, ana 2addha wi 2dood!! moving has never stopped me from enjoying living in a new place..its exciting and fun despite the fact that we leave a nice place with many good memories, but this is life...it would have been boring if we stayed living in one place.
The house is ALL packed up and we are ready to leave in couple of nights inshallah. thanks for always coming by.
