Server Crash and emotional investments
Sometimes, I forget how fragile our whole virtual life is. A single bad sector, or a few misplaced bits and everything that you know and cherish might be gone for ever.
Easy, get the backup. Right? What if the backup fails when you need it the most? How would you feel when you have lost all your memories, work all the code you have developed and so much more?
Let me tell you, it sucks! You feel like you've lost a child or something.
Now reflect that on your relationship with your best friend. A few loose electrons in their mind, instigated by few vocal vibrations that you uttered, resulting in a massive relationship crash!
So, a failed upgrade trial left the server in the dust. Causing a catastrophic failure. Apparently beyond repair. Backup didn't help. Only a bunch of acrobatic maneuvers managed to get things running again. The upgrade needs to wait for now
Which made me think more about all the amount of emotional investment we put in relationship. Funny how my mind is wired.
So you invest a huge amount of emotional wealth into a relationship with your friend, fiance, lover, boss at work. But at any moment everything can be burned to ashes... I guess, just as it is in the computer world, nothing is safe.
Just remember that next time you go out of your way to please your boss. But by all means, keep your noses brown!

Memories....
Even if life relationships crash, redemption can happen. Just like it did for your site today.
The only way to be completely safe is not to play, but then you won't have any fun!

I can only sigh about the emotional investment thing. I have been cleaning Peter's claws, put in new sediment, adjusted the heat lamp, etc, and all he does is run away from me.
Who's Peter? Moogle shall introduce Peter to the world in the next post!
I am quite a nutcase ain't I :D LoL
Right, this post is on your server :D So what's the server's name?
Thanks Kinzi.
True, but again, nothing is safe :)
Hani
Backup didn't work! I had to rebuild it
As for the rest, right on!
Nadim
Thanks for sharing
Kj
Thanks :)
Oh my god, another alter-ego!? How many do you have?
Server's name, is uncreatively, "Blog"!
There's KJ, Moogle, Natasha, Boris and Zizzy Balooba. Zizzy Balooba has become dormant and migrated to Hamza. I remain with Moogle, Natasha and Boris. Only Moogle is allowed for public display, LOL!
Peter isn't an entity in my head, he's actually a living thing, a little pet. LoL
