At The Hospital

Thursday, July 03, 2008
I spent the day in the hospital on Monday to check on dad. I had a good idea of how bad it is from HNK and mom but I still was shocked.
So dad was staying in the Doctor's Room, dad was only staying there because they wanted him to have special treatment. I'm glad I had my mobile on me, you just have to check it out:

That wooden board is where there usually is a stove to warm stuff.

This last photo by the way is of the ceiling, it's an air cooler.

It was not much of a hospital, dad didn't have much choice since the doctor he wanted worked in it: Al-Jomhoori hospital, but my sister says others that have not undergone construction lately are all like that, and that private hospitals are not better at all, or at least those she has been to.

They were painting the walls on Monday, I didn't appreciate the smell. Two of my cousins had brought books with them and prepared themselves to stay with dad, they found two rats in the room and had quite a fight with one of them!

I will keep your dad in my prayers!
I have never been to a hospital except once when I took one of my neighbours to visit her husband (I did not enter inside the building though). and maybe when I was born. :)
My mother is not sure if I was born at a hospital or at home.

I am very glad that the operation went well and sorry that you had to experience all that.

BTW I could not but laugh at the 3rd photo.
Najma, I am very shocked and disappointed and sorry and angry that your father had to be in such conditions.
Najma, please accept my deep sympathy ...
Dear najma
I didnot now that your dad in the hospital , but why he enter hospital ??
insaallah he will be better soon.
salami to hnk
tootie and Jan,
Thanks for your good feelings.

Bookish,
Are you sure you were born!? ;)
Inshallah you wouldn't have to go to a hospital in the future either.
Yes, the third photo is very inventive.. there are real carriers for these stuff in the normal rooms though.

John,
What matters most is that he's feeling better each day. Let's hope the condition in the hospital gets better soon, and that dad doesn't get into the hospital but as a doctor!

S.W,
I guess you need a long chat with HNK, she'll tell you what he had. She says salam back :) And welcome to the blogsphere dear.
I want to send TT my best wishes. Hope you get well soon old man.
Hey Najma,
i'm very sorry to read about your father being so ill.
I hope that the medical treatments will work out just right, and that he'll be back home as soon as possible.

best wishes!
I am concerned and wish the best for your father and all your family. Please give us frequent reports on your father's health.
Madtom,
I will make sure he receives them :)

Cile,
He's back home since Tuesday and is getting better each day. Thanks for caring.

Waldschrat,
He has been better since yesterday, much better today. He's started eating and it has made a huge change in his health.
Well, the hospital could certainly be cleaner, and the rats are not a good thing at all! But, you know what? Hospitals in America may look clean, but they are sometimes not clean at all in spite of the appearance. I have heard of many cases of patients coming to a hospital here for some simple treatment and then contracting a very dangerous infection in the hospital. Sometimes patients die from the infection! It is sad to think that they might be alive if they did not go to the hospital for treatment.

The solution to hospital contracted infections is usually fairly simple. Doctors and nurses need to sterilize their hands in between seeing each patient. Maybe instead of washing their hands they could just wear gloves and change them between each visit. It might seem like a lot of trouble, but it could save lives. The biggest problem here is that hospitals are all trying to make a profit, so they cut costs any way they can. In the past, hospitals were about caring for the sick and injured, not about making profits. Today, there is a profound lack of compassion in the American health care industry!

P.S. I know your father is still recovering. I wish him well and good wishes for you and the rest of your family too.
