A Vodafone insider confirmed me that the renowned iPhone 3G the cell phone brand by Apple will be released in Egypt sometime next month.
The iPhone 3G released more than 3 months ago in Europe and Americas as part of its world tour. The phone will be officially released only in 3 Arab countries including Egypt, Jordan and Qatar.
Apple also promoted its phone on the summer blockbuster “آسف على الازعاج” English: “Sorry to Bother” a comedy by Ahmad Helmy.
The controversial device was rumoured to be banned due to the GPS (Global Positioning System) feature included. The GPS feature has been removed from the phone specifications page for Egypt on Apple.com, but it remaind in the phone specifications for the other countries.
GPS is a mapping service that gives directions to find or locate addresses and places.
GPS globally used in vehicle navigator devices has been banned by the Egyptian authorities due to interference with military signals and may locate or point to some strategic military spots.
The source also confirmed that the GPS feature might be disabled by both the OS used and GPS providers. It isn’t the first time to ban or censorship a cell phone in Egypt. Egypt banned few mobile devices that have GPS technology including Nokia N95.

yea…I know it’s been a week since the iPhone was released in Egypt…I just couldn’t have the time to post about it….Anyway, it’s Exclusively provided by the largest 2 mobile service providers in Egypt out of 3..seems a bit ironic, don’t you think?
